STACKING AND ROLLING

Two main things I want to talk about are stacking and rolling.  These help you keep your OOP (out of pocket low.)

Stacking:  Did you know a lot of stores put out coupons that are good at their store only?  RiteAid often has them in their weekly flyers,  Target has ones you can print on their website and Walgreens has them in their weekly adds AND they have a large book of them every month when you come in their store.  These are known as store coupons.  What you probably don't know is that you can use or STACK these with regular manufacturer coupons. So you get to use TWO coupons at on one product.  You get to use one store coupon AND one manufacturer coupon on the SAME item!!  How great is that??? An example of this is Target had Halls cough drops on sale the other day.  The price was $1.19 per bag.  I bought two bags making my total  $2.38.  Target had a store coupon for $1 off of 2 Halls cough drops .  That brought my total down to $1.38 for the two bags.  Then I had (2) manufacturer coupons (one for each bag I bought) for .50 cents off.  This brought my total down to .38 for two bags of Halls cough drops.

Rolling:  Rolling is where you earn a reward from the store and use it to purchase another thing that generates more rewards.  At RiteAid they are  called UPS and at Walgreens they are called Register Rewards (RR) and at Target sometimes they have deals where you get a $5 gift card for purchasing certain things.  You want to trade "paper for paper" as often as you can leaving you as little out of pocket as possible on each transaction.

Exampler:
I want to buy Dishwashing detergent, toothpaste, and kleenex but I want to spend as little out of pocket as possible.  Let's say each of these generates a reward.  Here is a  (fake but not unrealistic) example of how I would roll my rewards to walk away paying as little as possible.

Transaction #1

Dish detergent 5.99 on sale for 4.99.  I use a coupon for $2.50 making it $2.49 OOP.  This purchase generates a $1.50 UP reward.
I roll that reward into transaction #2

Buy the Kleenex for $1.50, use .50 coupon making it $1.00  in the same transaction I buy the toothpaste that is on sale for $1.00  and I have a .50 coupon for that.  That makes my total $1.50 which I will then use the UP that I generated in the first transaction to pay for, making the kleenex and toothpaste $0 OOP and often times one of those items could generate an UP reward to use the next time you come back.  All you have to do is pay tax!

So for  $2.49 OOP I get detergent, toothpaste, and kleenex.
