Getting Started

So, getting started can feel a bit intimidating and overwhelming at first.  I'm here to let you know I felt the same way.  Do I have the time?  Is it really going to save me money?  Do I have to run to a bunch of stores?  I've tried it before and it didn't work.  I don't even know how to begin.  It is a bit of a commitment but it's a commitment that will save you hundreds of dollars a month and thousands a year.  And once you get used to it it doesn't take much time or effort at all.

Couponing requires a change of mindset.  No longer or you shopping for what you need right now, paying whatever HIGH price you need to to get it.  You are now looking at buying things you might not need for several weeks because you can get it for free now....saving you BIG money down the road.

I suggest to get started you just begin by making a small commitment to yourself.  Pick a time frame.  "I'm going to give this 4 weeks and see if I really save money."

You will need to get your hands on some coupons.  Coupons can be found everywhere.  The best place to find them is in the Sunday paper.  They are in little packets (we've all seen them) and they are called inserts.  It is MOST helpful to have several inserts for each week so that when a really good sale comes along you can stock up with lots of coupons.  I suggest buying at least one Sunday paper and then asking friends and neighbors to save their inserts for you if they don't use them.  You can also find coupons online.  Look in your grocery store because many times they have them in dispensers and other locations around the store.  Coupons are everywhere!  You can even buy them on ebay.

Once you get your coupons decide how you want to organize them.  I choose the clipless method.

And now comes the fun part!  Matching the coupons to the sales.  The easiest way to do this is to follow a couple of blogs.  They will usually do all the hard work for you and spell out all of the matchups for you.  They will tell you exactly what to buy, what coupons to use, what kind of rewards to expect and about how much to expect to pay out of pocket.
